Mohawks Victorious on the International Scene
On the first outing for the GB squads this year, our two Mohawk representatives on GB U23s return home with a gold medal from the mixed division, sealed with a decisive defeat over Belgium, and a bronze medal from women’s, won in a hard-fought playoff against ultimate superpower Canada. Ashley Yeo will also be representing GB Junior Open (U20s) at the World Junior Ultimate Championships in Germany in the first week of August and hopefully increasing the medal haul for the year. This weekend (1st & 2nd May), 16 teams from across Great Britain will travel to the University of Sussex to compete in the biggest event in the women's calendar: University Women's Outdoor Nationals. University of Sussex's Squaws are the current champions, and are going into the competition confident and determined - with a GB player, 2 European Champions and a whole squad of hot fresh talent boosting their roster. Congratulations to Megan, Nick and Ashley who have made final selection for the national teams. Megan and Nick join GB Women and GB Mixed for the Under 23 World Championships in Florence, Italy, in July. Ashley will be representing GB Under 20 Open (Men's) at the Junior World Championships in Heilbronn, Germany, in August. This will be Megan and Nick's second World Championship of the year: the pair are also representing local club and current European Champions Brighton Ultimate in the Mixed division of the World Ultimate Club Championships in Prague earlier in the month of July. Sussex Mohawks went to Open Outdoor Nationals on March 13th/14th and ended up finishing 8th earning 10 BUCS points (Total for the year now 22) which is the best they have done for 9 years. It was a fantastic effort by all involved but is just the start for the Mohawks - they have now cracked the top 8 and so the next step is getting into the top 4 ~ bring on 2011.
