Squaws are National Champions!
Last Friday, in varying states of distress or glee about missing the royal wedding, 12 Squaws (and 4 awesome sideliners) headed north to Durham for University Women�s Outdoor Nationals. On Saturday, Squaws dominated their pool, conceding only 5 points in 4 games. The Sunday saw them smash through their quarter-final opponents, Leeds (9-2), and fight their way through a tough semi-final against St Andrews (7-4), before facing off against Cambridge in a repeat of pool play for the title. After some nail-biting moments for those watching on the twitter feed, Squaws pulled it off - winning the game with a crowd-pleasing final grab and taking the championship 7-5. The successes of the weekend weren�t over yet though, with Megan and Sara both hot contenders for MVP of the final (with only 6 votes between them!) and Squaws forcing the creation of a party prize due to their antics on Saturday night (captain shots and hawaiian outfits make a party, apparently). Massive congratulations go to Gully for great captaining all season and to all the women who have been part of Squaws this year. This victory makes it 3 national titles for Squaws in the past 5 years, a feat unmatched by any other club in the UK.(Published Thu 5th May 10:04)
